Assessment pathways

Adult ADHD, Autism and AuDHD Assessments

Breathe-n-Smile Psychology offers neurodivergent-affirming assessment pathways for adults exploring ADHD, autism or overlapping AuDHD experiences.

Assessment is collaborative and considers developmental history, current experiences, strengths, context and support needs. The appropriate pathway depends on your questions and individual circumstances.

Assessment Tools That May Inform the Process

The measures selected depend on the referral question, developmental history and individual circumstances. Examples of tools that may form part of an assessment include:

Adult ADHD Assessment Tools

  • DIVA-5A semi-structured diagnostic interview exploring ADHD symptoms, functional impact and relevant experiences across childhood and adulthood.
  • ASRS v1.1An adult ADHD self-report screening measure used to gather information about current ADHD-related symptoms.
  • CAARS 2Adult ADHD rating scales that consider core symptoms and related areas of functioning.
  • WURSA retrospective self-report measure used to explore ADHD-related experiences during childhood.

Adult Autism and AuDHD Assessment Tools

  • MIGDAS-2A sensory-based interview process used to gather qualitative information about communication, relationships, emotions, sensory experiences and interests.
  • ADOS-2A semi-structured, standardised observational assessment of communication, social interaction and restricted or repetitive behaviours.
  • CAT-QA self-report questionnaire exploring social camouflaging experiences such as masking, compensation and assimilation.
  • AQA self-report measure used to gather information about autistic traits. It is not diagnostic when used on its own.
  • RAADS-RA self-report measure that may contribute information about adult autistic traits as one part of a broader assessment.
  • SRS-2A rating scale that may provide information about patterns of social communication and interaction.

No single tool or questionnaire determines a diagnosis. Findings are interpreted alongside clinical interviews, developmental history, current functioning, relevant background information, differential considerations and collateral information where available.
